Historical Photo Collection
From the Brown Brothers Photo Archive.  Rare and excellent images of the infamous New York to Paris Auto Race which took place in 1908.  A grueling 169 day ordeal the race had 6 cars participating representing 4 nations.  Only 3 finished the race with the American team winning with a 1907 Thomas Flyer auto.  Starting in New York the cars drove across the U.S. to San Francisco, took a steamer to Japan and then travelled overland through Siberia, Asia and Europe.  The contest, sponsored by the New York Times and a Paris newspaper Le Matin, was to show the durability of automobiles for the common man not just a play thing for the rich.
Brown Brothers retains the copyright for this image(s).  Reproduction is prohibited.
