Obverse: The obverse, like the reverse, was designed by Frank Gasparro. On the obverse is a right-side portrait of Susan B. Anthony. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed to the right. Rim inscriptions, which are connected by thirteen stars, read, "LIBERTY" and "1999."
Reverse: The reverse, which is a smaller version of the reverse of the Eisenhower Dollar, features the logo of Apollo XI. An eagle lands on the moon with an olive branch in its talons as Earth is seen in the distance. Inscriptions on this face offer the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR," and the second statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this coin their highest grade, Proof 70. That grade is only given to coins that appear perfect under 5x magnification. The grading company also certified that this piece exhibits both heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields by certifying it Ultra Cameo.
