    Description

Presented is a very old and unique solid .916 silver desk tray with pen holders made in Spain in the 18th century. The tray is a one-inch deep octagonal bowl with a hand-engraved reeded border held aloft by the wings of four female Sphinx creatures. The Sphinxs' platform is a mirror-polished ball-footed stand, also with a reeded edge, that holds two pen receptacles which would have been used for dipping pens at the time in 1797, the year this piece was produced!
The underside of the stand bears the official assayer marks for Madrid, Spain including the date marks for 1797.
The condition of the piece is excellent. You will see surface scratches from use, but there are no damages and no repairs to this over two-hundred year old pen stand.
Dimensions: 2 3/4 inches tall by 5 inches long by 3 inches wide
    Weight:  10.5 oz (298.2 grams)
